Regional Water to Augment Avoca Wellfield
Water Supply Expansion Update
May 01, 2023
Regional Water has been investigating new water sources to augment our Avoca Wellfield for more than fifteen years. The search expanded after the 2019 flood due to damage to our wellfield and the subsequent drought years. For added resiliency against a drought and to better enable us to serve new customers, we have been seeking safe new sources of groundwater. Since 2019, we have been conducting geophysical surveys of the area, drilled more than 50 test holes, and a dozen test wells in several locations. The results have indicated that there isn't sufficient water in the shallow aquifer to make another shallow wellfield affordable. We decided as a company in 2021 to begin the process of applying for a pipeline project to bring water in from Council Bluffs. Their system uses the Missouri River and has no shortage of water available.
See the Minden Pipeline Project below for more information.
Minden Pipeline Project
June 01, 2023
Regional Water has received approval and funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to build an 18.5 mile pipeline from Council Bluffs Water Works to our water system, connecting near the town of Minden. We are actively pursuing easements from the landowners along the route and expect construction to begin as early as this winter. The project should be complete by the end of 2024, bringing about 400,000 gallons of water per day to our area.
